Mark 16:15
Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation.
Today, I feel led to share with you on the critical role of evangelism in our Christian journey. First, let’s glean from Mark 16, where Jesus charged us with his clear mandate, which is not reserved for a select few, but every saved believer. He clarifies that each one of us has been commissioned to be part of God's great evangelistic mission.
Evangelism is the heartbeat of our faith. It is
a divine calling that obliges us to step out of our comfort zones and into the
world, ardent with the desire to share the Good News. It is not just about
speaking words into the wind, but about displaying the transformative power of
Christ's love through our actions and interactions.
Time and time again, I encounter believers who feel
ill-equipped or inadequate to evangelise. To those of you who feel this way, do not be discouraged. Remember the story of Moses? Despite his self-doubt and
stutter, God chose him to lead the Israelite out of Egypt. You see, my dear
friends, God does not call the qualified, but qualifies the called.
Our task is to plant the seed, and God Himself will take
care of the growth. 1 Corinthians 3:6 reminds us that, “I planted, Apollos
watered, but God gave the growth.” We are merely vessels chosen to proclaim the
message of salvation.
Therefore, let us not be consumed by our inadequacies.
Instead, let us open our hearts to the Holy Spirit, who will guide and empower
us to become the messengers God wants us to be. Our Lord has promised we
will not be alone in this journey. Matthew 28:20 affirms, “And surely I am with
you always, to the very end of the world.”
In our quest to evangelise, let us remember our lives
should be the first sermon people see. We need to embody the teachings of
Christ in our daily lives, in our actions, and in our words. If we want to show
people the way to Christ, we must first pave that path in our lives,
demonstrating the love, compassion, and humility that Christ showed us.
As we embark on this mission, may we approach it with
fervour and faithfulness. Let us not see it as an obligation, but rather an
opportunity to share the greatest gift we have ever received - the gift of
salvation through Jesus Christ.
May this serve as a reminder of our God-given
mandate to evangelise. May it encourage us to step out in faith, and be the
light of the world, the salt of the earth Jesus described: “You are the
salt of the earth...You are the light of the world" (Matthew 5:13-14).
I pray that God will open doors of opportunity for us to share the Gospel, and provide us with the wisdom to effectively communicate the love of Christ to the lost. Let the fire of evangelism ignite in our hearts, fuelled by our love for God and for those He came to save.
